10. Responsibilities and Consequences of Abuse

“Husband and wife have a solemn responsibility to love and care for each other and for their children.” (P.6)

We warn that individuals who violate covenants of chastity, who abuse spouse or offspring, or who fail to fulfill family responsibilities will one day stand accountable before God. (P8)

God has given us the opportunity to be parents and to learn to become like Him. We are responsible to Heavenly Father for the treatment of our family. He will not leave us alone to raise our family. If we ask for help, He will guide and help us to become better parents and spouses.

President M. Russel Ballard said, “Indeed, nothing is more critically connected to happiness-both our own and that of our children-than how well we love and support one another within the family.”
